Southern California median home price reached $385,000.  85,000 greater than 1 year ago. 

The most expensive communities in the region are far greater and range in price from 1.5 million to 2.6 million,  The top most expensive areas are in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Rancho Santa Fe, Newport Coast and Pacific Palisades. 

The 5 most affordable areas for home buyers Barstow, Joshua Tree, Blythe, Twentynine Palms and Sugarloaf.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

Forbes listed 94027 - Atherton, California as the second most expensive zip code in the country after 07620 - Alpine, New Jersey. Despite a 23% decline over the last 12 months, the median asking price in Atherton, in the Bay area, is priced at $3.85 million. Alpine is on top with a median asking price of $4.14 million despite the same rate of decline. New York's West Village 10014 comes in third with a $3.5 million median. West Village experienced a 24% decrease from last year. Forbes' 500 Most Expensive Zip Codes list included Duarte, Beverly Hills, Rancho, Santa Fe, Santa Barbara and Los Altos Hills in their top 10, taking spots 4 through 8 with prices around $3 million.

The Bing Crosby Estate in Toluca Lake (Los Angeles) is on the market for $10 million. The original 20-room house was destroyed in a fire in January 1943. The rebuilt 7,132 square-foot Southern Colonial has six bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, and five fireplaces. The house boasts a living room with marble fireplace, a den with a wet bar, and a billiards room.

The property's two acres of grounds come with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, two and a half bath cabana - complete with changing rooms, sitting area and kitchen, a tennis court with grandstands, a guest house with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as rose bushes and fruit trees.

Home prices are on the rise - we're back up to a quarter million for the median price. It's not a lot - coming up by a few thousand, and we're still down about $65-70,000 from a year ago. The price increase seems to be driven by more expensive home sales. The foreclosure rate is still record, but people are buying more secondary residences to rent in Southern California.
